The Fun had a myth about this kind of mask. When a buffalo mask was zoomorphic as in this case, the deity has created a direct link between the ancestors and mortals. This link facilitated easier access to the spirit world. Consider all the implications for this direct link! For instance, you could take your case directly to the gods!
Considered an object of power and protection, it was assigned many duties. These uses were said to include, commemoration of the chief, celebration of the deities, agricultural, providing good hunting outings, war preparations and victorious celebrations.
